Frequently Asked Questions

We have provided answers below to the questions that people most frequently ask us – if you have other questions please email enquiries@ledburyadt.org.

Background

The Ledbury & Area Development Trust Limited (LADT) was incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee on 5th January 2005.

We are an independent, entrepreneurial, community-based organisation.  We provide services, undertake income-generating activities, and act as an enabler, catalyst, and co-ordinator for the direct or indirect benefit of people living and working in Ledbury and the surrounding villages. In particular, we have a specific focus on the need to improve the prospects for the younger generation to obtain higher skilled, higher income employment allied to the availability of affordable housing.

Company Limited by Guarantee

As we are a Company Limited by Guarantee we do not have Share Capital, nor Shareholders. We have Members who “undertake to contribute to the assets of the Company in the event of the same being wound up … such amount as may be required not exceeding one pound”. We are Incorporated as a Private Limited Company and, as such, the liability of Members is limited.

Competition – will you compete?

Our activities will complement those carried out by existing organisations in Ledbury and we will actively seek opportunities to work in partnership.

Funding –  how much do you have?

At this stage, we do not have any funding for local organisations. Unlike the previous Ledbury Partnership, which allocated £300,000 from the Market Towns Initiative programme, we are a totally independent organisation that has to generate its own funding in order to operate.

However, it is our aim – over time – to generate sufficient capital to be able to set up a small Community Fund which local organisations could apply to.
We also monitor some key funding streams that potentially could be of benefit to the local community

Ledbury and Area Regeneration

The Ledbury and Area Regeneration Partnership managed the Market Towns Initiaitve programme in Ledbury from 2002 – 2005.  Over 50 projects benefited from this £1m programme, with each receiving funding of between £250 and £45,000 allocated by the Regional Development Agency – Advantage West Midlands – and administered by the Partnership.

Not for Profit Organisations

Not for Profit can be a misleading term. As an independent, entrepreneurial organisation we have set a target of becoming financially self sufficient.  To do, this we need to provide a range of services and make profits from those servies in order to cover the costs of running the business – heat, light, power, phone, and salaries, for example.

As a company Limited by Guarantee we do not have any shareholders. Consequently, any ‘profits’ – or perhaps more correctly ‘surpluses’ – from our services will be used for the benefit of the local community.

Villages – what area does LADT cover?

We focus on Ledbury being the ‘hub’ for the surrounding villages. However, our total area of benefit includes Acton Beauchamp, Ashperton, Aylton, Bosbury, Canon Frome, Castle Frome, Coddington, Colwall, Cradley, Donnington, Eastnor, Eggleton, Evesbatch, Ledbury, Little Marcle, Mathon, Much Cowarne, Much Marcle, Munsley, Pixley, Putley, Sollers Hope, Stretton Grandison, Tarrington, Wellington Heath, Woolhope, Yarkhill, and Yatton.

What does LADT do?

We support continuing regeneration in and around Ledbury – in particular by helping young entrepreneurs start-up businesses, and find affordable accommodation.  We are an independent, entrepreneurial organisation, and any profits we make are used for  the benefit of the local community.
